If you’re editing your published products in Etsy, you may notice that they have some variants that are disabled and have “unavailable_sku” and/or “fake_sku” assigned to them:

Don’t be alarmed by this — this is because of a workaround solution that our team has created to bypass an Etsy limitation related to product publishing.

Due to this limitation, all possible product variants have to be published to Etsy. Using our workaround, any out-of-stock (OOS), discontinued or deselected product variants will be published with “unavailable_sku”/“fake_sku” and will not be enabled in the listing.

Both “unavailable_sku” and “fake_sku” variants serve the same purpose, and neither of these variants are visible from the customer’s side.

  • Any freshly created products or republished products will have “unavailable_sku”.

  • Any existing products that haven’t been republished will still contain “fake_sku”.

Please note: We do not recommend manually enabling the “unavailable_sku” or “fake_sku” variants. If you’d like to change the available product variants, please make changes to the product from the Printify side by clicking Edit Design.
