What is the Trends tool and how do I use it?

Printify Trends is an insights tool that helps you spot trending topics and turn them into products to sell. It scans social media and marketplaces to find high-growth topics, then gives you ready-made designs you can customize with simple AI prompts. Trends refresh weekly, so there’s always something new to explore. This article covers how to explore trends, edit a design, and publish products to your store.

Step 1: Open Printify Trends and explore trending topics

In the left sidebar of your Dashboard, click Trends.

Trends shows the current trending topics, grouped by category. Select a trend to scroll through design ideas for it. When you find one that fits your niche, click it to open the design editor.

Step 2: Customize a Trends design with AI prompts

In the design editor, type a prompt in the text box at the bottom of the screen to describe what you’d like to change, then submit it. Review the new version of the design and keep refining it with more prompts until you’re happy with it. If you like the design as it is, you can skip this step.

You can also upload your own image and combine it with the design.

When your design is ready, you can save it to your library to use later, or click Apply to products to use it right away. To browse other designs for the same trend, click Explore in the top-left corner.

Step 3: Select and publish your Trends products

After you click Apply to products, you’ll see a selection of Printify Choice products that match the trend, with your design previewed on each one. Choose the products you want to sell and click Create product.

From there, you can click:

• Edit design: adjust the placement, remove backgrounds, add text, and more
• Edit listing: update the title, description, mockups, pricing, and more

When your edits are complete, click Publish to add your products to your connected store.

What can I change in a Printify Trends design?

You can use AI prompts in the design editor to:

• Add or update text.
• Replace the main subject or characters (e.g., "Change the cats to frogs").
• Adjust the aesthetics: Change colors, mood (e.g., "Make it pastel pink"), or artistic style (e.g., "Change to watercolor").
• Keep the layout while changing the theme (e.g., turning a fishing badge into a camping badge).
• Upload your own image and combine it with the template.

How do I write a good prompt for a Trends design?

A short, clear instruction is usually enough for simple changes, such as:

• “Change ‘Summer 2026’ to ‘Class of 2026.’”
• “Make the letters a pink gingham pattern.”

For specific branding or complex changes, describe the style, layout, and color palette:

• "Replace the text with ‘COOL GIRLS DRINK MATCHA’ in a bold stacked retro layout. Change the color palette to pastel green and baby pink. Replace the mascot with a smiling matcha cup in a playful cartoon style. Keep the sparkles."

Examples of Trends design edits

Here’s what different kinds of prompts can do to the same Trends design.

• Swap the main subject
  Prompt: “Change the cats to frogs.”
  The kitten heads become frog heads, while the layout, galaxy background, and “No Brain Just Vibes” text stay the same.

• Change the artistic style
  Prompt: “Make it in a watercolor painting style.”
  The black-and-white sketch becomes a soft watercolor painting with pink flowers. The kitten, the layout, and the “I Am at Capacity” text stay the same.
  
  
• Adapt a design for a new season
  Prompt: “Change the design to fit the 2026 graduation season.”
  The Fourth of July geese become graduates in caps and gowns, and the text changes from “Since 1776” to “Class of 2026.” A short prompt like this can update the text as well as the visuals.

• Change what a character is doing
  Prompt: “Ben Franklin posing as a DJ mixing tracks.”
  Ben Franklin goes from holding a boombox to mixing tracks at a DJ deck, keeping the same style and “Ben Jammin’” text.

• Turn a design into a new theme
  Prompt: “Turn this vintage badge design into a camping-themed dad graphic. Replace the fishing scene with a dad at camp, with pine trees, mountains, a tent or campfire, and classic outdoor gear. Change the text to ‘Camp Dad Outfitters.’ Keep the same distressed vintage badge style and rugged retro feel.”
  The fishing scene becomes a campsite, and the text changes to “Camp Dad Outfitters,” while the badge shape and vintage style stay the same.

How often does Trends update?
Trends refreshes weekly to show the most relevant opportunities based on current online conversations and marketplace activity.

Do I have to use AI-generated designs with Trends?
No. You can upload your own artwork and apply it to products, or use Trends just for inspiration and create your products the usual way in Product Creator.

Do I need design experience to use Trends?
No. You describe the changes you want in plain language, and the editor updates the design for you.

What products can I use with Trends?
For now, Trends supports products from the Printify Choice collection. Designs work best on products with square design areas, such as T-shirts, tote bags, mugs, sleeveless shirts, and towels.

Does Trends check for copyright or trademark issues?
Trends filters out many protected topics, but you’re responsible for making sure your designs don’t infringe on intellectual property. If our automated system flags a product when an order is placed, the order may be held until the design is updated.
