How do I register and collect sales tax?
Once you confirm you have nexus in a state, you must register for a sales tax permit to legally collect sales tax in your store. To register, please follow the steps outlined here.
We also recommend requesting a resale certificate from your state authorities. This certificate is different from a sales tax permit. It allows you to purchase products without paying sales tax on the Printify side, provided you plan to resell those products and collect sales tax through your business. Sales tax only needs to be collected once for the same goods.
Once you submit a valid resale certificate to us, your Printify orders shipped to that state will be exempt from sales tax charges.
Note
If you are using the Printify Pop-Up Store, you are the Merchant of Record. This means there are two transactions (one between you and the customer, and one between you and Printify). Therefore, we recommend submitting a resale certificate to avoid paying sales tax on your production costs.
