How do I set up shipping with BigCommerce?
When selling Printify products on BigCommerce, we recommend using either free shipping or weight-based rates. To set up either option, you can watch our video or follow the steps provided below.
In this article:
Free shipping
This option will be suitable if you expect most of your customers to be in a specific area or country, such as the United States. When setting up free shipping, you’ll need to increase each product’s retail price to cover the shipping costs. Use Printify’s shipping rates to determine how much you should raise the retail price.
Due to significant variations in shipping rates for different destinations, we recommend not setting up shipping for other locations. Please note that this will prevent customers in those areas from checking out in your store.
Step 1: Select a country for free shipping
- In your BigCommerce dashboard, go to Settings → Shipping.
- Choose the country where you want to offer free shipping.
Step 2: Turn on free shipping
- Click Edit.
- Switch on the free shipping toggle.
- Although you can enable free shipping for orders exceeding a certain total, it’s not needed in this case, so just click Submit.
- Click Done to save.
Step 3: Include shipping costs in the retail price
When creating your Printify products, adjust the retail price to include the shipping cost based on the rates displayed in the pricing table.
Weight-based shipping
You can set up weight-based rates in BigCommerce, but we recommend this only if you’re selling a single product type (e.g., t-shirts).
Step 1: Select a country for weight-based shipping
- In your BigCommerce dashboard, go to Settings → Shipping.
- Choose the country where you want to set up weight-based shipping.
Step 2: Set up the weight-based rates
Let’s say you want to sell t-shirts from Dimona Tee, which means that shipping rate for a single shirt is USD 4.80 (within the US), and USD 2 for each additional shirt. To view the Printify shipping rates, click here.
- Click Edit.
- Switch on the “Ship by” option to set up rates.
- Enter the shipping rate for a single shirt and for each additional shirt as shown in the table below.
- Assign a weight of 0.5 lbs to a single product. Note that the actual product weight doesn’t matter, as this is solely used to differentiate the product quantity.
- Click Submit to save the changes.
Number of products | Shipping cost (USD) | Weight (lbs) |
---|---|---|
1 | 4.80 | 0.5 |
2 | 4.80 + 2.00 = 6.80 | 1 |
3 | 4.80 + 2.00 + 2.00 = 8.80 | 1.5 |
Step 3: Repeat the process for other zones
Repeat the same process for other shipping zones. Merchants typically add at least 3 shipping zones: Domestic (US), Canada, and Rest of the World (International).
Step 4: Edit product weights to match rates
After creating the weight-based rates for one or more countries, it’s crucial to set up the weights of your products so that it matches the shipping rules you’ve just set up (i.e., t-shirt weight is 0.5 lbs).
- Go to Products and select a product.
- Input the product weight of 0.5 lbs under “Basic Information”.
- Scroll down to “Shipping Details” and ensure the “Free Shipping” box is unchecked.
- Save your settings.
Make sure to repeat the same steps for your other products.
Finally, to ensure your shipping setup is working as expected, we recommend logging out of BigCommerce, navigating to your storefront, and testing the rates by adding some products to the shopping cart as a customer.
