Do I have to charge VAT to my customers?
Most likely, you will need to charge VAT to your customers. However, we strongly recommend consulting with a professional tax advisor, as we cannot advise on your registration obligations or the taxability of your sales.
If you have registered and received a VAT ID for your business, you’ll need to set up a VAT collection in your store.
What if I am a US-based seller and only use US Print Providers?
If you only use Print Providers located in non-EU countries, such as the US, but your customer resides in one of the European* countries, VAT will be added to the order total on the Printify side.
In this scenario, your customer won’t be subjected to any customs fees upon delivery. However, it also means that you will need to collect this amount from your customer, as not doing so will impact your profits.
If you currently sell to such customers (or if they could potentially place an order in your store), you may consider either raising the retail price of the product or increasing only the country-specific shipping costs to absorb the eventual VAT cost associated with these orders.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to collect VAT, you can block or exclude sales to customers in these countries through your store’s shipping or availability settings. This prevents orders from EU, UK, or Norway customers and avoids VAT-related charges on these orders.
