Sales tax is a tax applied on retail purchases by the seller that is passed on to the state government. Only those orders that are fulfilled and shipped within the US are subject to sales tax.

Even though a business charges sales tax, they don’t keep it. The business is required to collect it and pass it on to state government. Sales tax is governed at the state level, so each state regulations differ.
