Can I sell personalized products using Printify?
The feature to customize orders for end-customers is not currently available, but we have received requests for it and are considering adding it in the future. In the meantime, you can still achieve your goal by manually editing each order before submitting it for production.
Automatic product personalization using a personalization app (for Etsy users only)
If you have an Etsy shop, you can integrate with the HelloCustom app. It’s a paid app that offers an automatic customization process for products based on your customer’s input. Plans start at USD 29.99/month + USD 0.29/per sale.
HelloCustom recognizes elements such as names, dates, addresses, etc., which are also the components of the design that your customers will be able to customize. You may only be able to offer partial customization of the product if the design contains an image.
For example, in the design below, the customer will be able to customize only the name; the image will stay the same.
Manual product personalization steps
Step 1: Set your order approval settings to “Manual”
By setting your order approval settings to “Manual”, you’ll be able to edit the order in Printify before sending it to production. Note that order approval settings are set for each store separately.
Step 2: Create a placeholder product and publish it
Create a product in Printify, indicating that you offer a personalized design, and proceed to publish it to your store.
Step 3: Come up with a way of obtaining the customer’s design
For example, the customer could send it via message (if selling on a marketplace like Etsy) or email it to you.
Shopify users: You may want to check out apps that have been specifically created for this purpose, such as the Personalized Image Uploader app for Shopify ($9.99/month, with a 7-day free trial). It allows the customer to upload their own design before submitting the order. Keep in mind that you’ll still need to manually edit the order in Printify to add the design.
Step 4: Recreate the product using the customer’s design
Once the customer has submitted an order in your store, and you have received their design, go to our catalog and recreate the ordered product using the customer’s design. Make sure to leave the product unpublished (click Save as draft).
Step 5: Edit the submitted order and replace the product
Navigate back to the order and click Edit order. Remove the placeholder product from the order and add the recreated product (the one that uses the customer’s design).
Step 6: Send the order to production
As the final step, send the order to production by clicking Fulfil order.
