How do I set up shipping with PrestaShop?
We recommend choosing between two shipping setup options for your PrestaShop store: “free shipping” or weight-based rates.
In this article:
Free shipping
This will be a suitable option for you if you expect most of your customers to be in one country (like in the US, for example).
The idea is to include each shipping cost within the retail price of your product. In other words, your products will appear to have “Free Shipping”; however, the shipping price will be included in the final amount the customer will be paying.
How to set it up
1. Navigate to “Shipping” → “Carriers” in your PrestaShop dashboard. Click “Add new carrier”.
2. Add the carrier name and transit time – for example, “Free shipping” and “2-5 business days”.
3. Check the box next to the chosen shipping region and enable “Free shipping”. Don’t be alarmed by the fact that you don’t see separate countries in this step – you’ll enable the specific country in one of the next steps.
4. Proceed through the other steps (not necessary to input anything), click Finish.
5. Last but not least, go to “International” → “Locations” → “Countries”. Find the country that you’d like to have free shipping from your selected region and double check that it’s enabled.
Due to the vast differences in the shipping rates for different delivery destinations, we recommend leaving all other destinations disabled in your PrestaShop shipping settings. This means customers outside of the countries you ship to won’t be able to complete the checkout process in your store.
Please note: In Printify, you will still be charged with shipping costs as usual. Using this method, you are charging the customer with the shipping cost already included in the retail price.
Weight-based rates
Using this method, you can set up weight-based flat rates. This is a great option if you’re planning to sell just one product type (like t-shirts).
If you will be selling a mixture of different products (t-shirts, phone cases, mugs etc.), consider using the “Free shipping” option instead.
How to set it up
1. Navigate to “Shipping” → “Carriers” in your PrestaShop dashboard. Click “Add new carrier”.
2. Add the carrier name and transit time – for example, “Standard shipping” and “2-5 business days” as shown below.
3. Let’s say you want to sell t-shirts from SwiftPOD, which means that shipping rate for a single shirt is $6.65 (the average of the USA and Canada rates), and $2.90 for each additional shirt.
We’ll be assigning a weight of 0.5 lbs to a single shirt. The actual product weight doesn’t matter, since we’re just using this to differentiate the product quantity.
Number of shirts | Total shipping price | Total weight |
---|---|---|
2 shirts | 6.65 + 2.90 = $9.55 | 0.5 + 0.5 = 1 lb |
3 shirts | 6.65 + 2.90 + 2.90 = $12.45 | 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 1.5 lb |
4. Do the same for the other shipping regions, similar to the example below.
5. Proceed through the other steps (not necessary to input anything), click Finish.
6. Navigate to “Catalog” → “Products” → Edit icon next to the product → “Shipping” tab. You’ll want to edit the weight of the product so that it matches the shipping rules you’ve just set up (i.e., t-shirt weight = 0.5 lbs). Make adjustments and click Save.
7. Last but not least, go to “International” → “Locations” → “Countries” and proceed to enable all countries (or the countries of the regions that you chose to enable).
Once done, we recommend that you navigate to your storefront and test the rates by putting some products in the shopping cart.
