How does Printify's AI-assisted personalization work?
AI-assisted personalization helps you handle personalized orders faster by automatically applying customer requests to your designs during order review. Instead of manually editing files for each order, you can review and approve an AI-generated version in just a few clicks—saving time while keeping full control over the final result.
How AI-assisted personalization works
AI-assisted personalization is currently designed to speed up the workflow for products that require manual personalization, meaning designs that would otherwise need to be edited manually for each order. It does not apply to products that use automated personalization features such as personalizable text or image layers in Product Creator.
Previously, if you created your designs in a third-party tool (like Canva), each personalized order required you to:
- Open the original design file
- Edit it manually based on the customer’s request
- Export the updated file
- Upload it during order review
With AI-assisted personalization, this process is streamlined. When reviewing an order, Printify automatically:
- Reads your product’s personalization instructions
- Analyzes the buyer’s request
- Applies the requested changes to your design using AI
You can then choose to:
- Accept the AI-generated result, or
- Reject it and personalize the design manually as before
Creating a product that can be personalized with AI
To ensure your design works with AI-assisted personalization, follow these requirements:
- Upload only one design file
- Ensure the design contains text that can be personalized
- Make sure your file is between 1k–4k pixels
- Use one of these aspect ratios: 1:1, 2:3, 3:4, 16:9, 21:9
- Do not use personalizable text/image layers in Product Creator
- Do not add extra layers (text, shapes, etc.) in Product Creator
Step 1: Pick a product from the Catalog
Choose any product from the Catalog. Keep in mind that products with unusual print area shapes or aspect ratios may not be suitable for AI-assisted personalization.
Step 2: Add your design in Product Creator
Upload only one design file that includes the text you want to be personalizable.
Step 3: Enable manual personalization
In the product details:
- Enable the Personalization toggle
- Add clear instructions for your buyers
Example instruction:
“Please add only the text you want printed on your product.”
Processing orders with AI-assisted personalization
When an order is placed for a product set up meeting the criteria:
- Open the order in your dashboard
- Check the buyer’s personalization request
- Click Review
Printify will automatically generate a personalized version of your design using AI.
You’ll then have two options:
- Use auto-generated design – Accept the AI-personalized version
- Design manually – Reject the suggestion and upload your own version
Now you can finish the review and submit the order to production!
