Do I need to register for a LUCID number for selling within Germany?
As of 12 August 2026, the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the German Packaging Law Implementation Act (VerpackDG) change who needs to register with Germany's Central Packaging Register (LUCID) and how. This affects all businesses and online sellers who ship packaged goods to customers in Germany.
To help you stay within the regulations, Printify has obtained a registration number that covers Printify orders. This number can be provided to your respective sales channel, if requested. Please see the information below to better understand how to use the Printify LUCID number to comply with official regulations.
Merchants using Printify as their only fulfillment partner
Merchants that use Printify as their only fulfillment and drop-shipping partner and do not ship goods by themselves will be able to use the Printify LUCID number DE4139628009499, and do not need to register individually with the LUCID Packaging Register. Any associated fees related to the German Packaging Act will also be covered by Printify.
If the above applies to you, and you have already registered and submitted your individual LUCID number to your sales channel but wish to use Printify’s registration – please contact the Central Agency Packaging Register to cancel your individual registration. You will also need to update the LUCID number in your sales channel (see the steps below).
The Printify LUCID number automatically covers manual orders submitted via Printify.
Merchants using Printify and other fulfillment partners
Merchants that work with other print-on-demand/drop-shipping partners in addition to Printify can provide the Printify LUCID number DE4139628009499 to their sales channel if requested.
However, Printify will only cover any fees associated with Printify orders, not other on-demand/drop-shipping partners.
Since only one LUCID number can be provided to the sales channel, merchants should make sure that any other print-on-demand/drop-shipping partners they are using are also registered with the LUCID system.
Merchants using Printify, in addition to shipping goods by themselves to Germany
Merchants that ship goods by themselves, in addition to using Printify, can provide the Printify LUCID number DE4139628009499 to their sales channel, if requested.
However, Printify will only cover fees associated with Printify orders.
Only one LUCID number can be provided to the sales channel, so merchants should further check with the German Packaging Act to determine whether a direct registration is required to cover the orders they ship by themselves. It is the merchant’s obligation to ensure that all of their orders shipped to Germany are being reported to the LUCID system, whether by themselves or by producers.
