How does the payment process work?
When you sell products with Printify, there are two separate payment flows:
- Your customer pays you through your sales channel (Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, etc.). This is where your profit is deposited.
- You pay Printify for the product production cost and shipping, using either your linked card/PayPal or your Printify Balance.
Here’s an example:
Let’s say you want to sell a mug with your design and set the retail price at USD 8.98.
- Production cost = USD 4.09
- Your profit = USD 4.89 (54%)
When a customer adds the product to their cart and enters their shipping information, the total cost will be USD 16.74.
- Retail price = USD 8.98
- Shipping = USD 6.09
- Total = USD 16.74, which goes to your sales channel account (Shopify, Etsy, etc.).
Printify then charges you for production + shipping:
- USD 4.09 + USD 6.09 = USD 10.18
- This comes from your Printify Balance or your linked payment method.
You keep your profit (USD 4.89) in your sales channel payout, and Printify receives the production and shipping cost.
Why doesn’t Printify take the production cost directly from my sales channel?
Each sales channel (Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.) has its own payment system and controls the payouts. Printify cannot withdraw funds directly from your store’s customer payments.
That’s why Printify must charge the order’s production and shipping costs separately from Printify Balance (if you’ve topped up), or linked card / PayPal account.
This ensures orders go into production as soon as they’re confirmed, without waiting for your sales channel payout.
Printify Pop-Up Store payouts
If you sell through the Printify Pop-Up Store, the payment process works differently:
- Printify handles the full payment process (customer checkout, production, shipping, and support).
- Your earnings (profit) are transferred directly to your bank account via Stripe.
- You must complete Stripe verification before receiving payouts.
For all other sales channels, Printify does not pay out your profits — your channel does.
