What happens when some product variants go out of stock?
Occasionally, specific product variants may temporarily go out of stock (OOS). When this happens, you’ll receive an “out of stock” alert in your My Products tab. While inventory changes can be frustrating, Printify offers several tools and workflows to help you manage stock availability, maintain product listings, and ensure your customers can still place orders without disruption.
If you've enabled Order Routing for your store, no further action is needed. If a customer orders a variant that is temporarily unavailable, the order will be routed to another Print Provider for fulfillment. If you prefer not to use Order Routing, you can use the Unavailable Variant Replacement Tool or manually edit the order to replace the product model or select a different Print Provider with available stock.
However, if only one Print Provider offers the product, or if no suitable fulfillment alternatives are available, you’ll need to update product availability in your sales channel to reflect current stock status.
How do I manage out-of-stock variants on Etsy, Shopify, TikTok Shop US, or Amazon US?
For these platforms, you can control how out-of-stock variants appear in your store by adjusting variant visibility settings.
- In the My Products tab, open the product details by clicking on its product card.
-
In the Publishing settings section, choose your preferred option on how to proceed. You can choose among the 3 available options for variant visibility (2 for Shopify users).
- Show all variants as available for purchase – choose this option if you’re using Order Routing and your products have multiple Print Provider options. If someone orders an unavailable product variant, the order will be routed to another Print Provider for fulfillment, and you won’t lose the sale.
- Show in-stock variants as available and out-of-stock variants as “sold out” – this will be the best option for SEO optimization. (This option is not available for Shopify.)
- Only show in stock variants and hide any out of stock variants - the out of stock variants will be automatically removed from your store listing upon republishing.
- Finally, select the Colors, sizes, prices, and SKUs option and click Publish to update the stock status in your store.
How do I update out-of-stock variants on WooCommerce, Squarespace, or PrestaShop?

For these platforms, stock availability is updated through republishing.

How are out-of-stock variants handled in Printify Pop-Up Store?
In the Printify Pop-Up Store, inventory management is automatic. When a product variant goes out of stock, it is removed from the product listing. Once it becomes available again, the variant is automatically restored and available for purchase.
