How can I create a single product with different designs?

Our Product Creator offers the option to upload separate artwork for each product color variant. This means you can create a single product with different designs and won’t need to create two separate products.

Note

Please be aware that this feature is not available for embroidery products.

This feature will also be very useful for our non-DTG products, such as posters and leggings, as it allows adjusting the file placement for each size variant separately.

Step 1: Create a product

Start by creating a new product in the Product Creator, or if you’re editing an existing product, click on the Edit design icon.

Step 2: Select color variants for making a specific design

The default design will be automatically applied to all color variants. You will need to edit the specific color variant to which you want to add a different design.

To do so, select the required color, click on Make a specific design for [color], and delete the existing design.

Note

This option is only available for products that have multiple color variants (e.g., T-shirts, hoodies). Products without color options won’t display this step.

Step 3: Upload the new design

Next, upload the new file from your computer or your library. It will be applied to the chosen color variant only. You’ll notice a blue dot on each color variant that has been edited.

Tip

To ensure consistency with the default design, check the size and positioning of the new design.

Step 4: Save and publish the product

Lastly, once you’re satisfied with the design, click Save product to save the changes, and proceed to publish (or republish) the product to your store.

Note

If you’d like to showcase different designs with custom mockups, you can use the Mockup Library to upload your own mockups. Simply access the Mockup Library after creating your product and upload custom images for each color variant.

Alternative method: Using the Migration Tool for non-color design variations

If you’d like to create multiple designs for the same product that aren’t based on color variants, for example, a white mug with different designs or candles with unique labels, you can use your storefront’s variant options together with Printify’s Migration Tool.

To do this:

Create the desired variants directly in your storefront (Shopify, Etsy, or TikTok).
In Printify, create matching unpublished products, each with a different design.
Use the Migration Tool to connect your storefront listing to these Printify products by matching each storefront variant with the correct design from the unpublished products.

This method allows you to maintain several design options under one product listing, even if the variations aren’t based on color.
