What is Personalization Hub for Etsy, and how does it work?

Printify’s Personalization Hub gives Etsy buyers an easy, engaging way to create products that feel truly their own. 

Through a custom link on your Etsy listing, buyers can access the Hub to add text and images to personalize  products, and preview their personalized design in real time. Once they complete their purchase on Etsy using a unique code generated within the Hub, their personalized design automatically links to the Printify order, ready for review and production.

How it works

1. Set up your personalizable layers
   Create a design with personalizable text or image layers. Add clear instructions for buyers and define any character limits or image requirements. 
2. Preview your personalization link
   Check how your product and instructions look by clicking the personalization link — this is where your buyers will customize their design. 
3. Publish your product
   We’ll automatically add instructions and the personalization link to your Etsy listing so your buyers will know exactly how to personalize their product. 
4. Let your buyers personalize
   Your buyers will visit the link, personalize their product, and get a unique code. They’ll paste this code into their Etsy order to send the final design to you. 
5. Review and approve personalized orders
   Each time a buyer submits a personalized design, you’ll review the text and images before the order goes to production — so you stay in control of the final look. 

Set up Personalization Hub for a product

Personalization Hub for Etsy will be automatically enabled for any new products you create that include personalizable layers. Follow these steps to set up the Personalization Hub for your product. 

Step 1: Open Product Creator

Choose a product from the Printify Catalog. In the Product Creator, click on the Personalization option in the left-hand menu.

Step 2: Add personalization layers

Choose from: 

• Text fields – for names, dates, or messages. Set a character limit for text fields (e.g., 15 characters for a name). 
• Image fields – for logos or artwork. Image requirements: PNG, JPEG, or JPG format, max size 100 MB (fixed and non-adjustable). 
• Multiple layers – combine text and images for more options. 

Name each layer clearly (e.g., “Your name,” “Company logo”) to help guide buyers in the Personalization Hub.

Step 3: Test the Hub link

On the product details page, go to the Personalization section to find the product’s Hub link. Click Open Hub to test it and experience the buyer’s customization flow. 

Step 4: Adjust layer instructions (optional)

If needed, update the instructions for each personalizable layer. Save the product as a draft to apply your changes to the Hub link. 

Step 5: Review Etsy instructions (optional)

Review and, if necessary, edit the Etsy personalization instructions for buyers. The instructions must include the unique Hub link. 

Step 6: Publish your product

Finally, publish your product to Etsy. It will now appear with the unique Hub link leading to the Personalization Hub, offering buyers a dynamic customization experience.

Buyer experience with Personalization Hub for Etsy

To help you understand how personalization works for your customers, here’s a breakdown of the buyer journey in Personalization Hub, from accessing the Hub link on Etsy to completing their personalized order.

1. Review the personalization instructions on Etsy

The instructions shown in your Etsy listing will include a link to the personalization Hub.

2. Copy Hub link 

Due to limitations on Etsy, buyers will have to highlight, copy, and paste the link in their browser to access Hub. 

3. Open Hub link and personalize 

After accessing the Hub, buyers will be able to personalize your product with their own text and images. 

4. Copy personalization code 

Once the buyer is done personalizing, they will receive a personalization code to copy and paste on Etsy. This code is necessary to connect their design with the correct order in our system. 

5. Paste code in Etsy before ordering 

The buyer then pastes the code into the personalization box on the Etsy product page and makes their order. 

Control how personalized orders are submitted

To avoid incorrect or incomplete personalization, you can control how personalized orders are submitted. In Store settings, you can choose whether personalized orders are submitted automatically or require your manual approval.

From Store settings → Orders → Personalized orders, you can:

• Require manual approval
  Personalized orders won’t be sent to production until you review the details and click Submit. This is useful if buyers often enter incorrect or incomplete personalization.

• Automatically submit after approval
  Orders can be sent to production automatically after buyer and/or seller approval, based on the timing rules you set (for example, after 1 hour or 24 hours).

• Automatically submit buyer-approved orders
  If enabled, orders that buyers previewed and approved in the Personalization Hub can skip your review and be sent directly to production.

Adjusting these settings helps prevent incorrect personalized orders from moving forward without your confirmation.

Important notes

• If the buyer doesn’t complete their Etsy purchase, no order will be created. 
• If the buyer forgets to include their personalization code, the order will still import to Printify with a “Review needed” notification. Contact the buyer via Etsy to confirm their details and personalize the design manually in Printify.
• Product color and size must match between the Hub and Etsy. If they don’t, the order will import with a mismatch notification. Here’s how to resolve it: 
  1. Contact the buyer to confirm the personalization details and the correct size and color. 
  2. Once confirmed, edit the order in Printify:
     • Remove the incorrect variant. 
     • Add the placeholder product with the correct size and color.
     • Save the changes.
     • Review and manually apply the buyer’s personalization.
