Where can customers add a gift message on Etsy?
When placing an order on Etsy, customers can include a gift message, but it must be added in the correct place during checkout. This article explains where customers can add a gift message, how it’s sent to Printify, and what happens if the message is added to the note to seller field instead.
Adding a gift message during Etsy checkout
When a customer places an order on Etsy, they can mark the order as a gift at the final checkout step. Once the gift option is selected, the customer can enter a gift message in the designated gift message field.
The gift message entered here is automatically passed to Printify and printed on the gift message card, as long as you’ve enabled gift messages in Printify.
Checking gift messages on an Etsy order
To confirm whether a customer has added a gift message, you can review the order details directly in Etsy. If the gift option was selected during checkout, the message will appear in the gift message section of the order.
This is the only location from which gift messages are automatically sent to Printify.
When customers use the note to seller field by mistake
Occasionally, customers may accidentally enter their gift message in the “Add an optional note to the seller” field on Etsy. This field is intended for special instructions to the seller, such as customization details or shipping requests, and is mainly used by sellers of handmade or custom-made products.
If you exclusively sell print-on-demand (POD) products, this field isn’t applicable for gift messages.
Here’s an example of how a note to seller appears in an Etsy order.
