What are gift messages?
Merchants selling on Etsy, as well as those manually creating orders on any sales channel, have the option to enable gift messages on Printify. Once activated, a printed card with a personalized gift message will be added to the following orders:
- All imported Etsy orders labeled as gifts and containing a customer’s message
- Orders manually created in Printify that include a gift message (all sales channels)
- Orders imported from any sales channel, with the gift message added in Printify
The gift message card measures 6" x 4" (15.2 cm x 10.1 cm) and is printed on 170 gsm paper. If an order consists of multiple shipments from different supporting Print Providers, each shipment will contain a gift message. The pricing for gift messages is as follows:
- USD 0.10 per gift message for Premium plan subscribers
- USD 0.15 per gift message for those on the free plan, excluding tax
You can enable gift messages with the default template containing just the message, or personalize it using a logo and customized fonts to match the look and feel of the store.
How can I find the products that support gift messages in the Catalog?
To find products available from supported Print Providers, apply the “Gift messages” filter, select a product, and then choose a Print Provider with the “Gift messages” badge.

Is the design printed on one or both sides of the card?
The design will be printed on one side of the card only. The other side will be blank and remain white.
What happens if the order consists of multiple shipments?
If an order consists of multiple shipments from different supporting Print Providers, each shipment will contain a gift message.
If the order contains a gift message, will the product prices be visible anywhere in the order?
No, the product prices will not be visible.
What happens if I have enabled branding inserts in addition to gift messages?
Both of these features can be enabled simultaneously. In this scenario, the customer will receive two printed cards: one for the gift message and one for the branding insert. Depending on how many different supporting Print Providers will be fulfilling the order, there may be more than one branding insert and gift message per order:
- If an order consists of 2 separate shipments from different Print Providers, there will be 2 branding inserts and 2 gift messages (one in each package).
- If an order consists of 2 separate shipments from the same Print Provider, there will be 1 branding insert and 1 gift message.
Can orders in Printify be edited to add the gift message manually?
Yes, orders imported from any sales channel can be edited to include a gift message while they are in the “On hold” status. However, please note that this requires the order to be placed with a Print Provider that supports this feature.
Additionally, gift messages can be manually added to imported orders with unsynced products. Once the order is imported, follow the steps listed below.
To add a gift message to an “On hold” order, follow these steps:
- Ensure that you have enabled the gift message feature for your store by clicking the toggle next to Enable gift messages for all eligible orders.
- Locate the order you wish to edit in the Orders section, then click on it to view its details.
- Click Edit order in the top-right corner.
- Proceed through the order editing flow to the final step, where you can input your gift message.
- Click Add to save the message.
- Finally, choose between Save for later to save the changes or Submit to save and submit the order for production immediately.
