How do discounts work for Pop-Up Store?
Promotions are an excellent way to reward your shoppers and supporters, improve your store’s conversion rate, and boost sales. To leverage this sales strategy, we’re introducing a discount creation tool for Pop-Up Store sellers.
Currently, Pop-Up Store sellers have the option to create the following discount types:
- Product discount, which will apply a set percentage discount to all eligible product variants in your store (store-wide discount).
- Shipping discount, which allows you to offer reduced shipping rates to your customers (covered by your product profit margin).
Go to the Promotions section in your Pop-Up store to set up a promotion. If you have multiple Pop-Up stores in one account, you’ll need to set up each store’s promotion separately.
How do the Pop-Up Store promotions work?
Product discount
This promotion works by applying a discount across all eligible product variants in your store. This sales strategy makes the products more attractive to buyers and can create a sense of urgency for them to make a purchase while the discount is available.
It’s important to keep in mind that any discount applied to the retail price also reduces your profit margin:
- For example, if your product variant has a 40% profit margin, the maximum product discount you can offer ranges from 1% to 40%. Keep in mind that offering a discount equal to your profit margin means you won’t make any profit from the sale.
- You may want to set a higher profit margin for your products before creating a product discount. For example, a 60% profit margin with a 20% discount would result in a 40% profit margin for you, while the discount badge makes your products more attractive to buyers.
- Alternatively, you can experiment with pricing using promotions. For example, set a 50% profit margin and try different discount percentages to determine what works best for your store.
Shipping discount
A shipping discount allows you to offer reduced shipping rates to your customers at checkout. These reduced rates (free or discounted shipping, depending on your discount) will be covered by your product’s profit margin if it exceeds the discount.
For example, let’s say you choose to set up a USD 5 shipping discount. Here are the potential scenarios:
Shipping discount | Shipping cost | Product profit | Checkout shipping cost | Your profit after discount |
---|---|---|---|---|
USD 5 | USD 5 | USD 10 | Free shipping | USD 5 |
USD 5 | USD 5 | USD 4 | USD 5 | USD 4 (no discount applied) |
USD 5 | USD 10 | USD 5 | USD 10 | USD 5 (no discount applied) |
USD 5 | USD 10 | USD 6 | USD 5 | USD 1 (partial shipping discount) |
Can I edit my promotion once it’s active?
Yes, you can edit your promotion while it’s still active:
- Go to the Promotions tab.
- Click the Edit icon.
- Make the desired changes.
- Re-publish the promotion.
Alternatively, you can delete the campaign, which will instantly stop the promotion, and no discounts will be visible in your store.
How many promotions can I run simultaneously?
You can run multiple promotions simultaneously, but only one of each type. Note that an ongoing promotion cannot overlap with a future campaign.
If you wish to make changes to any promotion, your options are:
- Edit an active promotion.
- Wait until your active promotion ends and start a new promotion.
- Delete an existing promotion and start a new one.
What does the promotion status mean?
In the Promotions tab, you will be able to see three statuses for the promotions you have created:
- Active: The promotion is live in your store and available to your customers.
- Scheduled: Your promotion will start at a future date.
- Expired: The promotion period has ended and the discounts are no longer available in your store.
