How do I set up product personalization?
You can personalize products on Printify by allowing buyers to request custom text or images. Depending on how you set up personalization, buyers may either share custom requests or enter text and upload images before checkout. Manual personalization (all sales channels)
To set up a product with manual personalization, you’ll need to turn on the Enable personalization toggle in the product listing settings before publishing your product.
Pop-Up Store, Etsy and TikTok
After enabling the toggle, you’ll see a field where you can add personalization instructions for the buyer.
Use this field to clearly explain what the buyer should provide. For example:
- “Enter the name to add to the design”
- “Specify the color changes you’d like”
On the product page, buyers will see these instructions along with an input field. The request they submit will be imported into Printify, where you can review it and manually create the final design before sending the order to production.
Other sales channels
For other sales channels, personalization input is more limited because Printify is unable to add a dedicated personalization field with instructions and buyer input on the product page. You’ll need to:
- Add clear personalization instructions to your product description
- Explain how buyers should submit their request
You can choose any method that fits your workflow, such as:
- Asking buyers to include details in order notes (if such a feature is available)
- Requesting they send details via email
- Letting them know you’ll contact them after purchase to collect personalization details
Automated personalization (Etsy, Shopify, TikTok and Pop-Up Store)
Products with automated personalization are created by adding personalizable layers in the Product Creator. These can only be added when creating a product for the first time, not when editing an existing product.
The initial setup, adding personalizable text or image layers in the Product Creator, is the same across all supported sales channels. However, feature availability, configuration options, and the buyer experience vary depending on the sales channel you’re using.
