What is the EU’s General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)?
Starting December 13, 2024, the European Union (EU) will mandate that all product listings for items shipped to or within the EU* and Northern Ireland include additional product information. This is part of the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) to ensure product safety across the EU.
- The regulation applies to all products across all sales channels, except those in the Food, Health & Beauty categories.
- The new requirements affect products shipped to or within the EU and Northern Ireland.
What are the new product listing requirements for items shipped to or within the EU and Northern Ireland?
As per the GPSR, starting December 13, 2024, each listing must include:
- Business and responsible person’s information (to meet EU responsible person requirements): Printify will provide the necessary contact information of an affiliate of Printify for all products. You will be able to indicate your information as well if you wish to do so.
- Product information: This includes product identification, country of origin, compliance details, age restrictions, handling instructions, and applicable warnings and hazard information. Printify will supply all required product information.
- Warranty information: The GPSR mandates to include in the description the general EU product warranty of two-years for products sold within the EU and Northern Ireland. As the seller, you are responsible for providing your customers with a refund or replacement if a product defect occurs after the first 30 days, which are covered by Printify’s policy.
Does the seller need to provide a physical mailing address?
Yes, product listings must contain contact information, including a physical address within the EU. If you do not have a EU address, you can use the address of an affiliate of Printify.
What happens if my products fail to comply with GPSR?
It is the responsibility of the seller or store owner to ensure compliance with the GPSR, which applies to all sales platforms, including individual stores and marketplaces.
Failure to comply when selling on a marketplace could lead to your products being blocked or your listings becoming invisible to customers in the EU and Northern Ireland.
Is there any way I can avoid this?
GPSR is a European Union law, so if you’re selling items to the EU or Northern Ireland, you’ll need to comply with the laws in that region. You can set some sales channels to not deliver to certain locations.
What is the relationship between the affiliate company and Printify?
The company is an affiliate of Printify providing assistance regarding GPSR matters; this allows us to provide assistance to online sellers for GPSR purposes, e.g., in case a seller does not have physical address in EU to ensure EU responsible person requirements, the seller can use the provided contact details.
Can I continue selling my products if you haven’t yet provided the necessary product information?
In case you do not provide respective information required under GPSR, you will not be compliant with the respective regulation/requirements and thus be subject to liability for non-compliance. Your product listings might be removed by sales channels (such as Amazon, Etsy) in accordance with their internal processes, and there might be monetary fines as well. Be sure to consult your legal counsel for advice on the GPSR requirements.
What if I’ve combined multiple products into one product listing?
If you’ve combined multiple products into one product listing, you must manually update the listing description to include the GPSR information for each product involved. You can find the necessary product information in the product details, located below the description box:
*EU member states include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. This regulation also applies to Northern Ireland, although it is not an EU member state.
